Cary, NC – Taggart Autosport and the No. 7 Porsche 911 GT3 R will return to GT-A competition in the Pirelli World Challenge this weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Ohio State graduate Jim Taggart will make his first start in the GT3-spec Porsche since St. Petersburg in April, and hopes to be in contention for GT-A success around Mid-Ohio’s twisting road course.
Originally from Ohio but now living in North Carolina, near VIR, Taggart considers Mid-Ohio his home race.
“I always look forward to getting back home to Ohio. I’ve missed a couple of Pirelli World Challenge races, so I’m eager to get back into it,” said Taggart. “The Porsche GT3R should be a great car for this track, which is not super fast, but features lots of turns, elevation changes and braking zones.”
While the Taggart Autosport crew rolls out from North Carolina with their rig, Jim will be at the track with his daughter, Monica, who occasionally serves as the team’s flag girl.
After competitive lap times set during a recent test at VIR, Taggart is hoping his luck turns around at Mid-Ohio when compared to the 2013 effort. Just a year ago, in a factory-supported Lotus effort, Taggart didn’t finish a single lap in either World Challenge race at Mid-Ohio.
“Last year’s race was a major disappointment, not able to finish one race lap,” Taggart continued. “We had an engine issue in first race, and then were taken out by a competitor at the start of the second. I am hoping to get some racing in this year. “
With the arrival of the team’s Porsche from Europe earlier this year, Taggart Autosport has moved from GTS to the faster GT-A classification for gentlemen drivers in GT-level equipment. In short, the No. 7 will be battling against Ferraris, Audis, another Porsche and even multiple Lamborghinis.
